admin October 20th, 2008

ConvergeSouth 2008 was fabulous - read what they’re saying and get the presenters’ files (as they send them). Thanks to everyone for everything.

Video Walking - Join us tomorrow

admin October 15th, 2008

Want to video walk? Learn how to shoot Web-friendly video (and still photos) and then edit it to put the best online? We’ve had a few cancellations for tomorrow’s [Thursday] video walking with Robert Scoble and Tom Lassiter. If you can swing it, just show up at the Police & Fire Training Facility on N. Church Street at 12:45 p.m. for a memorable afternoon’s worth of video & still photography, editing skills, free software and a great prelude to Thursday night dinners. [Note: Anil Dash’s plane will be late and he will miss dinner, but Convergers as we are, the dinner is still on. See the wiki for details.]

Chatting Converge

admin October 15th, 2008

Presenter Wayne Sutton set up a Meebo chat for ya’ll.
(We’re having issues with the code. Check back shortly.)

Apparently it’s Web friendly but cranky with WordPress. See the Meebo CS chat app online here.

Guess who’s coming

admin October 14th, 2008

Guilford County SchoolsWith some hard work by Sylvia Anderson (Director of College Tech Prep and more at GCS) and all the teachers, administrators and staff at the Weaver Academy, we have 100 top IT high school students joining us for ConvergeSouth this year. Our generous sponsors have made this opportunity available to the Tech Prep IT-track young folks in Guilford County Schools. We had a lot of logistics to work out - including enormous gas prices for buses, coordination with their home high schools, and expected paperwork, but when there’s a will (and Sylvia Anderson), there’s a way. Please welcome the high schoolers when you see them. They can probably fix your home computer!

[Full disclosure: Sue used to chair the Business & Industry Council for IT - College Tech Prep - and was ably assisted for 1 of the 4 years by Ben]

Online registration is closed

admin October 14th, 2008

ConvergeSouth 2008 online registration is closed. We have a huge pre-registration and had to close it so we could make final food arrangements and get those pesky nametags printed.

You can still attend ConvergeSouth - just show up for the conference!

We cannot guarantee that lunch will be provided for you if you are not pre-registered (your nametag = lunch ticket) but you are certainly welcome to brown-bag lunch and join the ConvergeSouth’ers at NC A&T State University! [click here for maps & driving suggestions]

Walk Greensboro

admin September 13th, 2008

If an all-day conference requires some leg-stretching for you, have we got a way for you to get some exercise and have fun at the same time. Like all of ConvergeSouth, it’s FREE.

Go to iTunes and get the Greensboro Walking Tour MP3s for your iPod and take one or more historic walks around Greensboro. [redirect to iTunes and requires iTunes software] We have a mirror of the files on the ConvergeSouth Web site with PDF maps of the tours.

The three tours include a Civil War History [PDF], Depression Era History [PDF], and Southside Walking Tour [PDF].

Ride the Van to ConvergeSouth

admin September 13th, 2008

Take the Van!Ride the van! Do not - repeat, DO NOT drive to NC A&T on Friday for ConvergeSouth. Parking is extremely limited and tickets are frequently issued. We have hired a van to run routes from downtown Greensboro in the morning to A&T (and back again in the afternoon). The van schedule will be posted here closer to the conference date.

Welcome to Smitty’s Notes - a new CS Sponsor

admin September 13th, 2008

We’re thrilled to welcome Smitty’s Notes as a sponsor of ConvergeSouth 2008! Smitty’s Notes’ generous sponsorship is enabling us to expand ConvergeSouth to include more historic walking tours, non-sandwich-only lunch, and is a fabulous show of support to this community conference. Special thanks to Jeff Smith of Smitty’s Notes and SCNTriad Event Communications.
